Relationships
September 2, 2008
What do you think of when you hear the word “relationship?” Do you think of love? Do you think of the recent argument you had with your best friend? Or do you think of the brick wall that stands between you and your parents? It’s all different for everyone. However, there is one thing to always keep in mind: relationships are unsteady, different, and emotionally challenging for all existent humans on this planet.
It’s useless to try to run away from the problems caused because of relationships. You run, you fail. That’s what most people learn after a couple times of hiding from their problems. For example, you just argued with your parents. Your parents feel that you did not put in your 100% on your recent math quiz. What do you say? Do you hide from the problem? If you hide and run away, you and your parents have just created an invisible wall that prevents you from relying on them when you need them. You can’t ever reach out and allow your parents to be like a mentor to you again.
What do you feel about the relationship with your partner at the moment? Do you feel that sexual intercourse is necessary in order for you to feel secure? Those relationships are the most dangerous of all. More than half the time, sexual intercourse takes place because one of the two feels unsafe and insecure. What’s worse is that young adults today do it simply because they think it is for the sake of love.
Does your best friend understand you the best? Studies show that teens constantly feel that their best friends are much more reliable than their parents. However, this is where the difference in relationships come. When you are around your friends, don’t you realize that you act differently? You tend to be more respectful, polite, and kind. When you are around your own parents, you’re different. You reach out and tend to be more aggressive. Is this normal? Oh, yes it is. Around different people, you act differently, depending on who they are.
It’s all up to you. How well your relationship with the people around you is different. All you can do is watch out for all the little details and be sure that you make the right decisions.
