Having a furry friend like a dog trotting along your side as you go out for a run is quite relaxing. You might want to consider owning a dog if you don’t yet have one. Dogs are perfectly suited as family pets and could be the warmest and closest friend you will ever have. Not all your friends have to be in human-form.

Have you ever wondered why dogs were chosen over, let’s say, jellyfish? Why can’t jellyfish live in the house and go play fetch with us in the backyard? That is because dogs can move easily on land, which makes it possible for them to do anything a human can on land. Unlike jellyfish, dogs are easy to carry and travel with when we go on vacation.

However, before you get a dog, you should consider the following:

1) Does your dog have a place where it can take care of its daily business (sanitary uses, sleep, eating area)?
2) Are you up for the job of cleaning after your dog?
3) Is your dog big enough to be home alone, or does someone need to stay to take care of it?
4) Is anyone in your house allergic to dog fur?

If you think that you are capable and ready to own a dog, the rest of the decision is completely up to you! However, do watch out for it. Don’t just leave your dog there, for what was the point of getting it in the first place? Make sure that you have the time and energy to take good care of your dog. That includes feeding it when it is hungry, giving it enough exercise, accompanying it regularly, etc. It’s important that you have the will and love to care for your pet, or else it would probably have a better life living in a pet store or shelter.

Surprisingly, dogs seem to understand human cues quite well. When you clap, they run to you to greet you or to receive a treat. When you pat them, they become extremely happy and use their tongue to lick your face as a sign of appreciation. Dogs can understand human communication quite well, which makes them an easy pet to understand.

There have also been studies proving that dogs can help lower your blood pressure (if you have high blood pressure). Who knows, maybe it’s because the dog relaxes you, so your blood pressure actually decreases.

Numerous kids say that owning a fish, or an aquatic pet, is too “boring”. You can’t take them out, pat them, and they don’t even understand what you want them to do. Friendly dogs make a good companion to pat, play with, and someone to cry on when you’re feeling upset. Dogs simply act as our eyes, ears, noses, helpers, guards, and family.
