Pointers in Achieving A Healthy College Life
September 15, 2008
Graduating from high school can be one of the most upsetting moments in a person’s life. For some people, it not only means leaving your friends, it also means entering college. Many people dread over the thought of going to college. As we all know, college life is not as fun as it may have been in high school. Most of the time, it is synonymous to sleepless nights, no social life and total disaster. It’s that stressful part of our lives that is inevitable. Instead of dreading about it even more, let me give you some tips on how to hold on to your sanity while in college.
Effective Poster Presentations: A Guide For Students
September 8, 2008
The following described format is mainly used for science assignments to provide information on an experiment. It is also applicable for posters that are done for advertising and decoration. Those posters can still be done successfully with the instruction that follows.
What You Must Consider
1. Make a sketch before you set your poster. Plan it early, and focus your attention on a few key points. Try various styles of data presentations to grab the readers’ attention. It is suggested that you focus on achieving simplicity and clarity as you lay out your poster. Posters that have too much information can sometimes ruin the reader’s interest. Use headlines and text topics.
Tangible Rewards
August 9, 2008
Although teachers deciding to provide tangible rewards to elementary students for good behavior does make the students happy, the rewards have actually caused more harm than smiles. Frankly speaking, the teachers have failed to reinforce their students’ behaviors. Acceptable behaviors come from morality, not golden stickers or pizza coupons. Better yet, teach the child to behave without any materialistic rewards that they could later depend on for encouragement. (more…)
Heavy Backpacks
July 8, 2008
Do you feel that your backpack is getting so heavy to the point where you feel like you’re going to slump down the hallway? Does your back hurt from carrying such heavy materials? Perhaps your backpack is just too heavy. Carrying such a heavy bag from here to there may cause you to have back problems in the future. Here are some ways that you can do to reduce the weight of your backpack and make things easier on yourself:
One Popular Habit: Procrastination
June 12, 2008
Do you constantly find yourself staying up until midnight (or later) to finish your work? Do you think that the work you did at midnight was low quality and unimpressive work?
If you answered yes to either of the questions above, you probably are one of the millions of procrastinators in the world. Procrastination has become a very popular and bad habit, and it is the most known habit in the teenage world. Here are some common reasons as to why you might be procrastinating:
Meeting Deadlines
May 23, 2008
Most people find it challenging to meet deadlines, especially those who tend to procrastinate and attempt to finish up that particular assignment, whether massive or small, in one night.
There are many times when I am a victim to the endless incoming of assignments and projects until I finally get down to doing some time management. For someone who’s been messy and disorganized all my life, it took me quite long to get familiar with planning and organizing my work.
Having Trouble With School? Here’s Your Solution Guide
January 13, 2008
Many students seem to be struggling with maintaining high grades or even raising the grades to a higher level for that matter. However, the low scores these students obtained usually result from the lack of time management, and other homework problems, or simply thinking that the teachers are malicious.
Study Skills [Part 2] - Personal Learning State
June 7, 2007
Individual learning modes are as different and unique as fingerprints. From the early years, different people developed different ways of learning to suit their environment, and of course, their various personalities. Needless to say, it is crucial for you to identify and take full advantage of your most favourable learning mode, and improve the learning skills that you are not so comfortable with.
Those who succeed in the formal education system are likely to have personal learning modes that fit with the way their schools function. However, it is also a possibility that they have adapted to the learning environment of the school. Only a small percentage of students fall into the former category, whilst the latter is an even rarer occurrence because of the difficulty to adapt. On the other hand, those who are not doing so well at school are likely to have learning modes different to the traditional classroom expectations. Only a small handful of students who are “disruptive” at school do not want to be there. The others are usually following peer pressure, catalysed by their difficulty in understanding the content. This links back to their learning modes being different to the classroom environment.

The Next Big Step
May 22, 2007
You’re a senior in high school and you just received the wonderful news that you were accepted in the university you applied to. Congratulations! You have just found the door to a brighter future! However, college education is not a guarantee that you will be earning a whopping salary upon graduation. In fact, many new college graduates have trouble finding their first full-time jobs, and their entry-level salaries aren’t really that impressive either. College is, however, a new stepping stone towards your future–the next big step you will take into maturity. So enjoy being a senior now, because you might find yourself in an entirely different environment next year.
Study Skills [Part 1] - Food for the Brain
April 28, 2007
In the introductory article I have outlined some basic study skills that may benefit some students on their academic paths. However, no matter how smart you are or how much effort you put into your studying, it would be unlikely or perhaps very difficult for you to accomplish anything if your brain is not well fed.
Learning and memory involve many different electrochemical processes between neurons. These processes can only be possible with the right type of food, as many of us may know that whatever we consume greatly affects the functioning of the brain. For example, when you drink alcohol your reaction rate is much slower because the drink inhibits/slows down the speed of which your neurons process messages. So what do we need to know about the food we consume in order to maximise the noodle’s potential?
