May 28, 2007
From announcing the pregnancy and deciding on baby names, to shopping for baby items and maternity clothing, having a baby can be a very hectic affair. With the delivery date coming closer every second of the day, here’s a quick checklist of what you’ll need to do to adequately prepare for your baby’s arrival at least one month before the delivery day:
The right way to hold a baby
January 28, 2007
To give an infant the support it needs, you have to hold the baby with two hands.
Place one hand under the baby’s bottom. Place the other hand behind the baby’s head and neck and make sure it’s well supported and upright. Supporting an infant’s head is very important.
Child Care Tips: Formula or Breast Milk
January 22, 2007
The baby is almost here. Now you have to make a choice on what you’ll be feeding the baby. Usually when you’re in the hospital they would ask you. But if they don’t, let one of the nurses know which you prefer.
Formula
Lots of people prefer to choose formula. They feel it’s convenient. In the beginning you have to feed the baby every 3 – 4 hours. Nowadays they have ready to use so no mixing. Of course ready to use ones are more expensive compare to powder. With powder ones you should use bottle of baby water to mix. They’ve made convenient powder packages that you can bring out with you on trips. But along with convenience, the cost would be higher. They have powder holder that you can buy that has several compartments. It’s like a pill holder that is set for dosage for each day. But this one holds powder formula. You just have to scoop in enough for each feeding in each compartment. So when it’s time for a feeding. You just have to open that one compartment and pour the powder into the baby bottle and add water and shake it up.
Formula has several types. There are ones with low iron, with iron, soy etc. Even ones that are close to breast milk. The doctor would let you know which one is best for your baby. Some babies are allergic to regular formula so they are put on soy formula. They cost more then regular ones too. Report any rashes on the belly, abnormal stool to the pediatrician. It might be an allergic reaction to the baby formula. (more…)

Nowadays, certain stores have a baby registry. This is convenient so you won’t get double gifts and things you really like to get for your baby. Do your research into the products you are going to get for your baby. Check with consumer report to see if there is any product recalls and the ratings. I remember doing that on my free time. It will save you money!

Child Care Tips: Diaper Rash
January 11, 2007
What is a diaper rash?
Diaper rash is an irritation. Urine and fecal matters have acid. Very painful to get it. It’s like getting a cut on your finger and something gets in and makes it sting. Some severe rashes even have skin coming off.
Diaper rashes are common for babies. Especially during the beginning. Newborns tend to soil a lot of diapers. It could be even during a feeding. I was changing diapers like crazy.
Child Care Tips: Sick Child
We all dread when our child gets sick. Worry about what to do and how much medication is needed. From years of experience I have came up with my own routine that would work for new parents and old.
When sickness starts:
1. Check to see if your child have a temperature. I like to use the thermoscan. Thermoscan is an ear thermometer. It’s fast and when a child is sick they won’t have the patience for more then a couple of seconds.
For kids under one year call the doctor to report the temperature and ask for an appointment. Ask how much medication and which medication your child needs. Very important to let the doctor know if your child have any allergies to medications. And if the temperature is over 104 degrees F. then go to the emergency room. Call your doctor in the morning or leave a message for them on their answering service to let them know what’s happening. Young babies with high temperatures are in danger.
There are things you can help your child feel more comfortable.
